The Scarecrows are Coming!
Fall Family Fun to Benefit the CDR
Every Saturday, Sunday and Columbus Day in October, 10-5 each day, at Bishop’s Orchards Farm Market, 1355 Boston Post Road in Guilford, CT. Don’t miss this annual fall, family-favorite event that’s fun for all ages! We supply all of the materials you’ll need, from hay to hats, to stuff your scarecrow. You’ll also find glitter tattoos, face painting by Funderful Face Painting, and a free children’s snack with every scarecrow! All proceeds from scarecrows and glitter tattoos benefit the CDR.
CDR Sponsors Mammography Screenings in Branford October 23 Yale-New Haven Hospital and Smilow Cancer Hospital will conduct mammography screenings for the community on Thursday, October 23, from 8:00am to 2:30pm at the CDR, 30 Harrison Avenue in Branford. Each appointment takes 15 minutes. To schedule an appointment for your screening, please call Melissa Branch from the CDR at 203.488.0447 no later than October 9, 2014.
SOUP FOR GOOD
Enjoy a warm, soup supper while supporting two great shoreline organizations—the Guilford Art Center and the Community Dining Room--at Soup for Good, Sunday, November 16, 4:30-6:30pm at Guilford Art Center. Guests are invited to the Art Center school to enjoy a bowl of hearty soup, bread, dessert and glass of wine or sparkling water. Each guest gets to choose their own one-of-a-kind soup bowl, handcrafted by Guilford Art Center potters. Bowls will be washed and dried for each guest to take home, “for good.” Tickets for Soup for Good are $30 in advance, $35 at door. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Community Dining Room, as well as Guilford Art Center. CDR's 11th Annual Shoreline Walkathon!
Despite rain and wind, many friends and families participated in the Community Dining Room's (CDR's) 11th Annual Shoreline Walkathon on Saturday, April 26st on the Branford Town Green. With the support of many volunteers, sponsors and donors, this event included live music, crafts and raffle prizes. We heartily thank Eunice Lasala, our Grand Marshal and Chris Velardi from News Channel 8 for encouraging our walkers.
Thank you to Bishop's Orchards, all of our volunteers, and all of our friends who supported our Make Your Own Scarecrow fundraiser. We had another very successful year!
Lenny & Joe's Fish Tale
Thank you to Lenny & Joe's Fish Tale for generously donating proceeds from rides on their magical carousel last Saturday to the CDR.
The Community Dining Room offers several annual family-friendly events:
APRIL Shoreline Walkathon
Gather your family and friends for this annual event held that starts and ends on the beautiful Branford Town Green. Participants will walk a 3 mile loop to Foote Park and back to the Green to raise funds to support the CDR!
WEEKENDS IN OCTOBER Make Your Own Scarecrow
Join us at Bishops Orchards each weekend in October - including Columbus Day - through Halloween to make your own Scarecrow!
Enjoy a night of music, food and dancing each October at the Owenego Inn during our Rocktoberfest Fundraiser!

Thanksgiving Feast at the CDR
The CDR will serve a full, traditional Thanksgiving feast on Thursday, November 27, beginning at Noon thru 1:30. All members of the community are invited to join the feast. Empty nesters, older adults, neighbors who would enjoy sharing a Fancy Thanksgiving Dinner with neighbors are encouraged to attend. If you know someone who would enjoy and benefit from this wonderful community event, please do invite them to join us!

The CDR and the Branford Family Resource Center present "Parent Chats": Once a month, the CDR will host a series of "Parent Chats" facilitated by Wendy Miller, FRC Coordinator and Parents as Teachers (PAT) Certified Parent Educator. All "Parent Chats" will be held at the CDR (30 Harrison Avenue in Branford) from 5:30-6:45 PM. FREE Dinner will be served from 5:30-6 and "Parent Chat" will be from 6-6:30.Children will participate in an activity related to the developmental topic. Jazz at HOME Supports the CDR!
Mark your calendars: Blue Plate Radio is bringing award-winning musician JJ Sansaverino back to Branford restaurant, HOME, 1114 Main St., Branford, CT, on Friday, December 12 for an exclusive, one-night only show as part of his "Waiting for You" holiday tour. Doors open at 7:00pm and the show starts at 8:00pm. All attendees are asked to bring a bag of non-perishable food items with them for a food drive to support the CDR.
Tickets are $30 in advance at http://www.blueplateradio.com/tickets or $35 cash at the door. Seating is limited, so buy your tickets early. No tickets will be sold at the door when the advance tickets sell out.
Thank you to the Feinstein Foundation!
Thank you to our generous CDR donors in March and April--your contributions helped the CDR receive an award from the Feinstein Foundation in the amount of $362.53. This award was part of the annual Feinstein Challenge to Fight Hunger.
In addition to the CDR and the Branford Food Council, there is another great resource for our neighbors in need: the Connecticut Food Bank's Mobil Food Pantry comes to the New Life Apostolic Church at 26 Jefferson Road in Branford the first Friday of the month at 10am. All are welcome.
