Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are always needed. The Community Dining Room prides itself on the number of volunteers it works with and the long tenures these volunteers enjoy with us. Currently, 41 individuals have volunteered over ten years at the CDR! Come join us!

WAYS YOU CAN HELP:

Weekday Helpers: Monday through Friday from 9:30 until 1:30 the CDR helpers gather to chop, peel, mix and create a healthy lunch for our clients.

Weekday Cooks: Monday through Friday from 9:00 until 1:30 the CDR cooks come to oversee the creation of the lunch meal. They menu plan with our kitchen coordinator in advance of their cooking day, creating a menu which is varied and healthful plus one they personally are comfortable cooking. The CDR offers delicious, quality dinners, made with the extras required for that special touch.

Weekend Helpers: Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 until 1:30. These helpers do the same tasks as those on weekdays. See above please.

Home Delivery Experts: Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 9:30 until 12:00. Working closely with our kitchen coordinator, these volunteers work on food preparation and packing for our home delivery program.

Home Delivery Drivers and Visitors: Monday, Wednesday or Friday around 11:15 these volunteers pick up the delivery containers and bring meals to clients. Brief visiting is a part of this service. Longer visiting opportunities are available.

Tuesday Family Dinners: Every Tuesday from 3:30 until 7:00. Cooks and helpers are asked to perform the same tasks as our weekday and weekend cooks and helpers. Many school, religious and civic groups enjoy creating this dinner together.

Community Service Saturdays: First and second Saturdays of each month. Students are welcome to complete their school requirements here at the CDR. Additional volunteer opportunities are available during our annual fund raising special events.

Run a Food Drive: the CDR has all the information you need to run a simple and productive food drive. Please call for details.

Dining Room Decorations: the CDR wants a festive and seasonal dining room! Kids and adults are welcome to craft items to decorate our dining room making it a warm and inviting place for our guests to come.

Bake Desserts: There are many creative ways to help the CDR help others. Put on your thinking caps and together we can meet the needs of our shoreline community.

Pick up an extra gallon of milk and drop it off at the CDR. We are always in need of milk for our nutritional programs!
